Stage Coach Theater Fund Raiser Open House

Stage Coach Theater asked me to take some pictures of their fund raising event at their new building. It was a very successful event and they raised a lot of money towards their eventual goal. For me it was challenging because the lighting was spare and a lot of it pointed straight down. Not the most complimentary angle for viewing people's faces. Another challenge is that I try to avoid camera mounted flash photography. Sure the target is clear and sharp but too often you get pasty white faces and the background fades away into darkness. Since this event was very much about the building, I really wanted get the space in there as well. So I was shooting with a low shutter speed but fortunately the full framed sensor in my Canon 5DmarkII was up to the task. Any sudden movements caused blurring but my strategy was to shoot as many pictures as possible and then harvest the best of the bunch. It turned out better than I had predicted.

Emergency Photography

Sometimes things just pop up. This weekend our theater company is holding a fund raising event and yesterday morning our president emailed me saying a local artist had just donated a pendant for auction and he wanted to get a picture of it online as soon as possible. Fortunately the artist lived close to me. So I picked up the pendant and rushed it into my studio. I set up my small soft box on my flash and mounted my camera on the tripod. It took a little experimenting to get the look I wanted. Also there was quite a bit of tiny bits of lint on the necklace holder that really showed up in the pictures. So I used photoshop to edit the lint out. I delivered the picture our president wanted the same day he asked for it. Here's the result.

Stage Coach Theater: Before

The theater company I'm connected to, Stage Coach Theater, is in the process of acquiring their own building after thirty years of leasing spaces for their productions. They asked me to come in and take some "before" pictures before they finalize the paperwork and then move in and customize the building to turn it into a theater. These are some of the pictures from that job.
Ironically I'm quite familiar with this building since I participated in a production of the Rocky Horror Show here back in 2001.

The tech booth.
This area with be changed to become sloped seating for the audience.

Inside the tech booth.
This area will probably be adapted to be the lobby.

The old kitchen area will probably be adapted for storage.

Cool lighted mirror!

Marketing Brochure

Something that I've been meaning to do for some time now has been to produce some brochures so that I can send them to potential clients or for other people to show around. The hard part was selecting the few photos that I would use on this project. I wanted to cover all of my bases by including photos that give vivid examples each of the services that I offer. So I wanted to get in a couple of portraits, group portraits, commercial photography and weddings. I'm actually pretty happy about finding a way to throw in as many wedding pictures as I did.
And of course, I had to include the picture of my cat Bart in the box. Everybody loves that picture when I first show it to them.

And if your curious, this is the set up I used to take the pictures of the brochure. I attached a small soft box to my remote flash that I wired to my camera. I hung a reflector on the other side to give the light a little balance. With the camera mounted on the tripod above the subject, I could easily make small but consistent adjustments between each shot. Fire away!
