Wedding Bells: making the most of adversity

I was recently hired to shoot a wonderful backyard wedding. Everything was set up meticulously and the weather forecast was very promising.

However, this was one of those occasions that proves that predicting the weather is an inexact science. No sooner had we finished shooting the group shots before the ceremony, it started sprinkling.
We figured that it would soon pass but the rain clouds had other plans and it began to pour.
So next came "Plan B" and the wedding party regrouped in the family room. They toweled off the chairs from outside and set everything up again inside.

In spite of the sudden change of venue, the ceremony itself went according to plan and was very nice.

Don't you just love happy endings?

Concept Photo Shoot: Austin Plays With Statues

I've seen pictures of people doing fun poses with statues posted around the Internet and thought they were good creative fun, imposing new meaning on something already existing. Though it's usually an incidental thing. So I came up with the idea of what if we went out and deliberately did a series of pictures like that with all the statues we could find. I called up my actor friend Austin and he liked the idea. So we set out one afternoon and he just let loose with a lot of fun ideas with the local art work.

He had a lot of fun with Abraham Lincoln. The hugeness of the statue really contributed to the possibilities. The first three pictures are a kind of triptych.

Family Photo Shoot

A while back we did this fun family shoot. We met up at the Boise Train Depot and made use of the autumn setting sun to provide dramatic lighting. It also worked very well in using the foothills at the background.

And as always it's a challenge to photograph the little ones. But it pays to get down on their level. It's difficult to get them to pose but I always get the best results by letting them do their own thing. It makes them happy and we get some cool pictures of them just being themselves.

Another fun photo shoot delivered.
